Procedures Used
We used the i-Tree Canopy application in order to measure the percentage cover of different cover classes in Brgy. Sta. Lucia. This was done by first tracing the boundaries of Sta. Lucia and inputting additional cover classes of grass and buildings.
Then we named random points inside the barangay, determining whether they are a tree, non-tree, grass or building, which has been repeated 505 times. Finally we attained the percentage cover results.

Results Attained

Results showed that tree cover in Sta. Lucia is 16.3%+1.64. This exhibits a low percentage. It also implies that challenges and opportunities abound in Barangay Sta. Lucia to increase its green canopy cover from its present state.
This finding is consistent with the clumped housing settlements and residential areas that we observed in the barangay. The tight spacing of this predominantly residential barangay naturally leaves little for green spaces and tree canopy cover. However, trees and plants keep urban areas cooler, improve air quality and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
